Logic Gates and Circuit Characteristics Crossword

The demonstrations treat a gate as a piece of logic: inputs in, output out, and an answer that follows from a truth table. That is the right way to think about a gate while you are designing with it, and it is not the whole story once you have to build the thing.

A real gate is made of transistors, sources and sinks a finite amount of current, can only drive so many inputs before it stops working, takes time to change its mind, and behaves differently depending on whether it was made in TTL or CMOS. This crossword covers both halves: the gates you already know, and the electrical vocabulary that goes with putting them on a board.

That second half is worth taking seriously. Most first circuits that do not work are not wrong in their logic. They are wrong because an input was left floating, or an output was asked to drive more than it could, and both of those have names in this puzzle.

Check grid marks incorrect letters in red without revealing the correct ones, so a check is a prompt to reconsider a clue rather than a way of being told the answer. Clear grid empties the puzzle. Clues can be ticked off in the list as you finish them.

Where an answer has more than one word, run the words together and leave the spaces out.
